My interest in the body-mind connection to possible emotional causes of illnesses began when I was introduced to Catherine Ponder's first book, the Dynamic Laws of Prosperity in the early 1960s.

I was actually seeking a way to increase my income when a friend told me about Catherine Ponder. I obtained her book and my feet were firmly planted on the road to incorporating affirmations in my daily routines. To this day, some 50 years later, I still affirm “I am a healthy, happy, prosperous child of God ... I am! I Am! I Am!” daily.

What I gained from reading her first book was the realization that there were causes for illness other than those espoused by the medical and scientific community. This realization added a path to my journey and I am going to share what I have learned and the personal experiences I have had which resulted from utilizing some of the insight I gained.

The first thing I learned when I began working with healing energies was that the cause of the dis-ease or illness was the underlying energy that should be determined and worked with. Once the cause is eliminated the body can accept and utilize healing energies.

I am presenting a brief list of illnesses or discomforts, the metaphysical cause(s), and some additional thoughts on some of them.

A few emotional issues that cause illness and discomfort:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Betrayal
  • Depression (which, in itself, has a number of different causes.)
  • Frustration
  • Grief (caused by different events...death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a pet, etc.)
  • Guilt
  • Hopelessness
  • Lack of self-confidence
  • Lack of self-esteem
  • Lack of self-love
  • Loneliness
  • Regret
  • Relationship problems
  • Sadness
  • Self-pity
  • Shame

As with every thought that forms, each individual emotion created forms its own energy, This energy is measurable and each emotion vibrates to its own special energy. We know that laughter releases endorphins which in turn boost the immune system. Anger or fear releases both adrenalin and cortisol, which suppress the immune system and make your body acidic. It damages the liver and gall bladder as well as the heart. The adrenals react to negative emotions and the body goes into survival and uses nutrients heavily to sustain itself. We must learn to listen to our body.
We must learn to listen to our body.

Now to the generally accepted metaphysical causes to many illnesses and discomforts:

Healing Practices:

There are some measures you can take to begin releasing these emotions and establishing a path to reestablish balance.

  • Begin a daily routine of visiting with your Chakras and working towards bringing their energies into balance.
  • Begin working with the color energies that resonate to the illness you are experiencing. Wear them, eat them, breath them and take them into your meditations.
  • Do your research on which foods will aid in the release of the dis-ease or dis-comfort that you are working with . Be sure your foods are organically grown and take the time, while you are eating, to feel the healing energy of the nutrients your body is enjoying.
  • If you feel the need or desire to take natural herb or vitamin supplements, do some research and connect with a Naturopath or Nutritionist to discuss the best route to follow.
  • Connect with nature: walk barefoot in the grass and on the beach. The ocean or lake or waterfall have great healing qualities provided by the negative ions they generate and the peaceful state of mind they seem to be able to instill.
  • Smile - laugh - giggle: Even if you don't feel like it. Those actions release and change the chemistry in your body.
  • Exercise helps release emotional energies.
  • Meditation allows a balance between the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
  • Take some classes, get some massages, find a good chiropractor and/or a Reiki Practitioner.

I have included no affirmations for there are many sites and books written (Louise Hay for example) on affirmations that are available.
I personally feel that once you have determined the cause of your illness or discomfort you are in a position to create the affirmation(s) that will best work for you in helping correct your illness or discomfort.

The list I have presented is short but I think l have covered enough areas of the body to enable you to make a determination as to the metaphysical or emotional cause of those problems I did not cover.
The prevalent causes of any dis-ease or dis-comfort are anger, fear and feeling unsupported. Suppressed or unexpressed anger is a killer. Lack of receiving and giving love is probably the second in line.

Love, laughter and joy are really the basis of instilling health and well-being, not only for yourself but for those around you.
